Keeping Your Cat Safe From Deadly Diseases

Cats are often viewed as feminine animals, but the truth is that there are plenty of cats perfect for becoming mans next best friend. Different breeds and bloodlines make an impact on how your new cat looks, behaves, and is cared for. Use this article to find some of the breeds that you find most entertaining.

Give your new cat some space. Moving to a new home can be stressful on a cat, especially one who is no longer a kitten. To help them adjust, give them a quiet place that they can call their own, such as a spare bathroom or laundry room. This gives them a safe space they can retreat to until they have become comfortable with exploring the whole house. Depending on the cat, this process may take a few days up to a month or more.

Keep your cat’s coat healthy by giving them a supplement of nutritional yeast. Nutritional yeast is an inexpensive supplement that can be found in most health food stores. Simply sprinkle a little bit on your cat’s dry food, or mix it in with their wet food. Not only do they love how it tastes, but it’s full of protein and vitamins that will keep them looking their best!

Do not feed your cat any kind of human food that contains bones in it. If you are giving your cat chicken or fish, be sure to remove the bones beforehand to prevent a choking hazard. Chop the food that you serve into small bits to make it easier to digest for your cat.

Consider getting your cat a scratching post. Scratching is something that comes extremely easy to cats; it is part of their nature. Don’t force your cat to play with it. Rather, interest him in it by spraying catnip spray on it, or by dangling a string from the top. Soon he’ll get the idea that it’s there for a reason!

Just because your family did it when you were a child, does not mean allowing your cat to go outside is a wise decision. There are many dangers to your cat outside. Your cat could get parasites, or worse. Other animals and vehicles could also injure your cat. If your cat has to be outside, make sure it is only in a small area near the house.

It is important that you do not feed your cat too much food from the table. Cats do not digest human food the same way that your does. It can also lead to your cat becoming overweight. If your cat is carrying around too much weight, it will be hard for them to jump up on furniture and get around.

Your cat should like their carrier. Cats can’t be punished like dogs. They prefer encouragement instead. Place a blanket or favorite toy inside the carrier to make your cat more acclimated to the carrier. Soon, your cat will naturally enter the carrier. Once the cat is comfortable with the carrier, you can transport it easily.

Provide your cat with a drinking fountain. Cats out in the wild like to drink from running water, so they would like that at home too. Streaming water is your best bet. In fact, the running water in a sink garnishes more attention from a cat than their water bowl usually does. This is a more natural way for them to drink.

These cats are only a small part of the feline family and your options are nearly limitless. A budget and a location is all that is inhibiting you from bringing home the biggest and meanest tiger in the jungle. Animal adoption shelters are a great place to find these breeds and many more.
